The Pillion connector saves supported Codex conversations with your work. Use it in Codex desktop on macOS.
Install the connector manually
You need Codex desktop and the packaged Pillion connector. Request the package from Pillion support.
The package includes the recorder binary. The source plugin folder does not include it.
- Extract the package and open its folder in Terminal.
- Run the installer:
./install.sh codex- Reload Codex.
- Review and trust the connector’s capture hooks.
- Run the Pillion setup skill in your repository.
Installation alone does not enable capture hooks. Codex requires separate hook trust.
This connector uses manual installation because the public plugin directory excludes capture hooks. See OpenAI’s plugin documentation.
Approve repository access
The setup skill opens Pillion in your browser. Use https://pillion.dev for hosted Pillion, or your organization’s Pillion address.
- Sign in with your usual Pillion account.
- Return to Connected devices if sign-in opens another page.
- Select the Repository owner and the repositories that allow capture.
- Select I allow conversation capture for these repositories.
- Select Allow this device.
- Return to Codex and ask the Pillion skill to check capture status.
Check that the status shows your intended account and repository. The connector stores its credential in macOS Keychain.
This grant permits conversation access for the selected repositories. Git writes and agent task execution require separate permissions.
Keep context with the work
Make a change in an approved repository, commit it, and push it to Pillion. The connector uploads supported events after confirming the pushed commit.
Open Agent work in the repository to read the saved conversation. Inspect Capture details for missing or unsupported records.
Messages after a checkpoint remain local. An explicit save uploads selected local history without requiring a push.
Ask the Pillion skill to save unpushed history only when you want that upload. A saved conversation does not preserve hidden reasoning.
Follow Your first agent change, then share selected events with a pull request.
Manage the connection
- Ask the Pillion skill for capture status to check uploads and connection details.
- Ask it to pause capture when you want to stop new capture and automatic uploads.
- Open Connected devices and select Revoke device to remove access.
Grants expire after 90 days. Run setup again to renew access.
Codex and Claude Code share the local connection and queue. Removing one plugin preserves the other connector’s data.
Saved history supports review and handoff. Forking a saved conversation does not resume the original Codex session.
